May 14th: Silvertip Hole #12

Silvertip Hole #12 -- 372yd Par4 Handicap 15
Silvertip:

An hour or so away from Calgary in the mountains above Canmore, approaching Banff, Silvertip, which opened in 1999, has a stunning collection of holes, almost every one offering views of the surrounding peaks. Silvertip stands at the edge of an immense, untouched wilderness reserve. For those who live their lives in the city, it is one of the rarest tracts of land imaginable on which to create a golf course just minutes away from Banff, Canada's oldest and most revered National Park. Silvertip, by the way, was named for a rare and distinctive type of grizzly.

What Kind of Bear is Best?
False. Black bear.

Be extra cautious from late July to mid-September (when we're there), which is berry season. Berries are a bear's favorite food (other than beets, hikers, and golfers).
