Banff Springs Hole #2 "Rundle" 171-yard Par3 Handicap 15
Shooting to an upward sloping green that is elevated and well trapped, a 5 or 6 iron is proper club unless pin is at extreme back of green. Using one extra club here is recommended however, being below the pin on tee shot will help your putting. Green slopes from back to front with a sharp incline in first 30 feet. Downhill or side hill putts can be tricky.
Thompson liked to angle his greens, a trait that his pupil Robert Trent Jones Sr. (who worked on the crew here) later used as well.
Banff Springs GC:
#83 course in the world...that is all.
Banff / Trip Suggestions:
GyPSy Guide -- We picked up the "guide" in Calgary and were sad when we turned it in in Jasper - as so many others have stated - we saw and did so many things that would have been missed if we simply relied on signs or tour guide books. The group that invented this has filled a void that travelers have encountered forever! The simplicity of it is amazing. the advice and knowledge it offers is astounding, It is a perfect companion for travel in the Canadian Rockies. The driver and passengers can enjoy the trip so much more with this wonderful little gadget. The voice changes periodically so that you don;t get too used to one person speaking - they interject humor, history, science, a little bit of everything . Our guide was included as part of a package deal - but when we return next year we will certainly rent one on our own. No escorted tour guide would be as thorough as the GYPSY GUIDE.. Don't embark on your Canadian travels without one. 13/14 5 star reviews on tripadvisor.
I read about said Gypsy Guide when I was doing my prelim Banff reading. I don't think it's too expensive. This is gonna be retarded fun.
