Mt. Kidd @ Kananaskis Country Golf Course Hole #1 455-yd Par4 Handicap 5
The backdrop of Mt. Kidd serves as the perfect setting for your first tee shot of the day. Your target off the tee on this lengthy first hole is to the left of the large fairway bunker. A large, receptive green awaits your approach shot . . . but be careful to have enough club to carry the front two sand traps.
Kananaskis Country GC:
Golf Digest Magazine rates it as one of the top 25 public courses in North America and judged as the Best Super-Value 36 hole golf course in North American and the Caribbean.
Things to Do:
HIKING NEAR KANANASKIS -- Today the walk into the canyon, up and down some stairs provides an unusual experience, for 60 years ago this was the course of the Kananaskis river. The river flowed until dams were built in the 1930's to provide elecric power for Alberta. The water from the dam was led away in a large pipe to a generating station lower down the valley. The canyon was left to explore and is near a camp ground in Lougheed Provincial park. The big pipe carrying the water can be seen above the wall of the canyon. The two lakes formed, are the Upper and the Lower Kananaskis Lakes. Parking is available and there are several hikes in the area, one that goes around the upper lake is over 16 km in length . The mountains around the northern side of the Upper Lake are named for ships that took part in the First World War. They include Indefatigable, Warspite and Black Prince.
Love the flyover. Looks like a good first hole- just grip it and rip it- wide fairways ideal for a first tee shank.
