Banff Springs Hole #5 "Trough" 424-yard Par4 Handicap 5
Strategically as good as any hole at Banff, this dogleg left is well bunkered on the inside. As the green is again on a front right to back left angle to the player, the best play off the tee is toward the outside of the dogleg, exactly where Thompson placed another bunker.
Demanding dogleg left with fairway traps on the right and left side. Drive to upper fairway tier will leave an approach shot to the angled green guarded by several sand traps. The green is long and has a lower tier in front. Subtle breaks in the back on the green will make putting a challenge.
Banff Springs GC:
Banff Springs opened in 1928 and was the first million-dollar golf course layout. The views of Cascade Mountain and Mount Rundle are worth at least that much.
Bars in Banff:
Pump and Tap Tavern -- Fantastic bar, a real local feel with many locals using it as their "local" must mean it is good. Plenty of activities to do, always have English football on their screens when games have been played, friendly welcoming and not a rip off bar unlike many in Banff…. Daily drink specials bring similar pleasure to the pocketbook and to the soul. Visitors are welcome to stop by; just don't be put off by the short-lived sizing-up you'll get at first. Order a brew and relax the mountain way. You'll fit in without too much trouble. Somewhat hidden in the Sundance Mall, this compact, low-ceilinged pub is a favorite local hangout. Good vibes…nothing flashy, but should check out while in Banff.
